LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 19, 2012) -- The Jockey Club today released Report of Mares Bred (RMB) statistics for the 2012 breeding season. Based on RMBs received through Oct. 14, 2012, The Jockey Club reports that 1,861 stallions covered 35,391 mares in North America during 2012.

AGUANGA, Calif. (Oct. 18, 2012) – Impeachment, a son of Deputy Minister, will stand the 2013 breeding season at Fruitful Acres Farm for a $2,000 fee, with several discounts available.

DAVIS, Calif. (Oct. 3, 2012) -- More than 350 horse enthusiasts -- from hobbyists to breeders -- are expected to gather Oct. 13 to rub noses with equine experts from throughout the nation during Horse Day 2012 at the University of California, Davis.

(Sept. 27, 2012) -- Last Wednesday, John Zamrzla and I attended a meeting with the Department of Food and Agriculture’s Animal Health and Food Safety Services Division, (CAHFS) as representatives of the Equine industry.  There were also representatives of the beef cattle, dairy, poultry, sheep, and pork industries. In addition, CVMA was represented, along with a number of staff people from the Department and the Lab system.

From NTRA WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 27, 2012) -- Congress passed a six month continuing resolution (CR) last week to fund government agencies through March 2013. For the Thoroughbred industry, the CR impacts those who employ H-2B temporary foreign workers by prohibiting the Department of Labor (DOL) from enforcing a new H-2B wage rule. This new rule could significantly raise the rates employers must pay H-2B workers.

From NTRA WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 20, 2012) -- Earlier this year, it appeared that Congress would pass new legislation before the current farm bill expires on September 30th, but it now appears likely that Congress will allow the current bill to lapse. The Senate passed a new five year farm bill several weeks ago.  However, the House is far from passing the Senate version of the farm bill due to severe pressure from conservatives who have a strong dislike for the multiple spending programs found in the Senate bill.  With the House and Senate far apart, there is virtually no chance that a long-term deal can be reached on a new bill before the current bill expires.
