Unbeaten Caracortado Wins Lewis ARCADIA, Calif. (Feb. 13, 2010) -- Unbeaten California-bred champion 2-year-old Caracortado earned his way onto the Kentucky Derby trail by winning Saturdays $150,000 Grade II Robert B. Lewis Stakes for 3-year-olds at Santa Anita. Caracortado is the first stakes winner by Cat Dreams, out of the Marias Mons mare Mons Venus, was bred by trainer Mike Machowsky, is owned by Blahut Racing and Lo HI Racing and was ridden by Paul Atkinson. Caracortado has won all five starts with earnings of $199,200 and was coming off a win in the Dec. 26 California Breeders Champion Stakes at the same distance. "I think Ill leave him here for the next race and see if Lookin for Lucky comes at us," Machowsky said. "I think hell love the dirt, but Im just not anxious to ship him." Lookin for Lucky, the early favorite for the Kentucky Derby, is likely to prepare for the Run for the Roses on a dirt track out of California. The March 13 San Felipe Stakes is the most logical next step locally, leading up to the April 3 Santa Anita Derby. Caracortado ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:41.75 and won by two lengths at odds of 9-2 in the field of five. For Caracortados pedigree, click http://www.pedigreequery.com/caracortado.
