More New Stallions Cover First Mares
ARCADIA, Calif. (Mar. 5, 2010) -- Heres a follow-up to last weeks initial list of promising California stallions that just covered their first mares of the new breeding season.
Start with Brave Cat, a son of Lion Heart, who stands at Sue Hubbard & Associates for private treaty. Brave Cat is owned by a partnership that includes trainer Jeff Bonde and George Schmitt, who started supporting the stallion with the first mare bred, Thrillofalifetime.
Hubbard said response to the stallion has been brisk, with 25 mares committed.
Rivergrade Boy, Bushwacker and Time to Get Even are debuting this year at Lovacres Ranch.
Rivergrade Boy, a stakes-placed son of Grand Slam, is being supported by his owner, trainer Cesar Dominguez who, with co-owner Bill Goltz, got the stallion started this season by breeding their mare Ebbets Field.
Bushwacker, owned by Lovacres Farm owner Terry Lovingier, has been bred to several mares owned by Lovingier, the first being Seattle Sweetie. The son of Outflanker, who stands for $3,000, was also bred to Fun Logic. Lovingier said he expects the stallion to cover "40 mares, if not more."
Time to Get Even, owned by a partnership, was first bred to Lovingiers mare Gdansks Honour, an English stakes winner. Trainer Walther Solis has also supported the Grade III-winning son of Stephen Got Even by breeding the mare Pivotal. Time to Get Even stands for $4,000.
Grade III winner Mister Acpen (Chi) is standing at Linda Varnums Spoiled Rotten Ranch for a fee of $1,250. The first mare bred to him in California was the stakes-placed mare Kiss the Cooke, who is owned by Erin Dwyer and Dave Reynolds.
Roi Charmant debuted at Victory Rose Thoroughbreds, with a fee of $1,500. The son of Evansville Slew covered two mares in his first day, according to farm owner Ellen Jackson: Summer Starlet, owned by stallion owner Dr. Bruce Zietz, and Found Her, owned by Peggy and Bud Warder.
Jackson said the striking conformation of Roi Charmant has made him popular with anybody who sees him. She said the farm will send a free video of his races upon request.
At Milky Way Farm, Roman Commander is making his debut for owner Kendall Mann, who is supporting the son of Deputy Commander with several of his mares, including the Dynaformer mare Bright Sunday. Her son, Wolf Tail, is a stakes winner. Roman Commander stands for $2,500.
Snorter, a Grade III winning son of Awesome Again, is new at stud this year at Madera Thoroughbreds for a fee of $2,000.
Jill Fischer from the farm said the first mare he covered was the Foxhound mare Sparkling Fox, owned by Madera Thoroughbreds. The stallion is owned by Ross and Sheila McLeod from British Colombia.
