INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Oct. 30, 2010) – Swiss Wild Cat rallied late along the rail and emerged from a three-horse photo finish as winner of Saturday’s $75,000 Robert H. Walter California Cup Juvenile Fillies at Oak Tree at Hollywood Park.
Swiss Wild Cat is by Ministers Wild Cat, out of the Swiss Yodeler mare I Can Yodele, was bred by owner Heinz Steinmann, was trained by Mike Harrington and ridden by Victor Espinoza, who won the race for the second time.
“It was getting a little bit tight down there but it opened up a little more the last sixteenth and there was plenty of room to get through,” said Espinoza. “Everything worked out perfect. I didn’t think she would have a problem going two turns. It’s funny because I rode her mother before and I won an allowance race with her going long. For that reason I didn’t think she would have any problem today with the distance.”
Swiss Wild Cat has three wins in 10 starts, earnings of $189,552 and was coming off a third in an Oct. 7 allowance. She won at odds of 4-1 by a nose over even-money favorite California Nectar with Warren’s Flyer a head back in third.
