DEL MAR, Calif. (July 1, 2015) — The catalog for the inaugural Barretts Select Yearling Sale is now on-line and will be mailed soon. This auction of 68 yearlings will be held on Saturday night, August 15 starting approximately 30 minutes after the last race in the Surfside Race Place located on the grounds of the Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, California. We believe this will be the best group of yearlings in terms of quality and depth to be offered in the Western United States in the last 30 years and that this auction will soon become a yearly marquee event of the summer Del Mar race meet. Because of the depth of the quality for this sale, we have instituted for the first time an “Also Eligible List” which begins with Hip Number 70 in the catalog and will allow horses to “scratch into the sale” if a yearling numerically below them (in terms of Hip Number) is withdrawn.
The yearlings will be stabled inside the Del Mar Horse Show Arena adjacent to the Sales Pavilion.

The catalog is highlighted by top quality yearlings by three of the very exciting first crop stallions that stand in California: Eclipse Award champion and Pacific Classic winner Acclamation (who stands at Old English Rancho in Sanger), the first Eclipse award winner to stand his initial season in California since Bertrando, Coil (who stands at Magali Farms in Santa Ynez), a Grade 1 winner both routing and sprinting, and the beautifully-bred stakes winning son of Storm Cat, Calimonco (who stands at Ballena Vista Farm in Ramona). The only stallion which has more yearlings in the catalog than these freshman sires is the California stalwart Unusual Heat (who stands at Harris Farms in Sanger).
