Barton Thoroughbreds Hires Kevin Dickson

From Barton Thoroughbreds

SANTA YNEZ, Calif. (June 28, 2017)—Kate Barton announced today that Kevin Dickson will be the Farm Manager of Barton Thoroughbreds as of August 1, 2017. Currently in Escrow in the purchase of Magali Farms, Barton said “We are more than excited to bring someone of this caliber on board. Kevin’s experience will be such an asset in the transition and development of the farm.”

Kevin Dickson served as the farm manager of Ocean Breeze Ranch in Bonsall, CA since its inception in the fall of 2015.  Kevin was retained as manager after serving in that role under the auspices of Frank Scoop Vessels of Vessels Stallion Farm.  There, he began as the stallion manager in 1994, assuming the day to day care of notable stallions, In Excess (IRE) and famed Quarter Horse sire First Down Dash.  Through his more than two-decade tenure on the property, he managed the careers of a multitude of legendary race horses, stallions, and broodmares.

Kevin studied Equine Science with an emphasis in reproduction at Colorado State University, after which he visited the South Pacific where he joined legendary 2007 Melbourne Cup winning trainer Graeme Rogerson. Kevin tutored 27 young runners for Rogerson’s Stables at Randwick Race Course in Sydney, Australia.  Upon returning stateside, he took a position as yearling manager at Bob Moore Farms in Norman, OK until relocating to Southern California.
