Cal-bred Mare Produces $1 Million Colt

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (Aug. 8, 2017) – The $1 million sale topper from Monday’s session of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale is out of the California-bred Grade I winner River’s Prayer.

The Curlin colt was purchased by Eric Fein from the consignment of Denali Stud, agent for Stonestreet and was bred in Kentucky by Craig and Holly Banderoff.

River’s Prayer was by Devon Lane, out of the Cozzene mare Cozzy Flyer, and was bred by Vessels Stallion Farm. She had nine wins in 16 and earned $921,958. Her biggest win was the Grade I Princess Rooney. She also set a Del Mar track record in the Grade III Rancho Bernardo, won the Grade III Las Cienegas and won three Cal-bred stakes, including the California Cup Distaff.
