ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 27, 2014) – In addition to California Chrome, the 4-1 second choice in the $5 million Classic, three other California-breds drew into the rich supporting races for Saturday’s card of the Breeders’ Cup championships at Santa Anita.

Ambitious Brew drew post position No. 5 in the $1 million Turf Sprint, with Mike Smith named as jockey in a field of 14. Ambitious Brew is by Tizbud, out of the Forest Wildcat mare Kathwen, was bred by owner Pamela Ziebarth and is trained by Marty Jones. He has four wins and four seconds in eight starts, earnings of $247,920 and is coming off a second in the Sept. 26 Eddie D. He is 12-1 on the morning line for the Turf Sprint.

Starspangled Heat drew post position No. 10 in the $3 million Turf, with Corey Nakatani up in a field of 13. Starspangled Heat is by Unusual Heat, out of the Runaway Groom mare Bel Air Belle, was bred by M. Auerbach, D. Abrams and V. Loverso, is owned by Auerbach, Loverso and Barry Abrams and is trained by Barry Abrams. He has five wins in 38 starts, earnings of $476,685 and is wheeled back after finishing third in Saturday’s Lure Stakes. He is 30-1 on the morning line for the Turf.

Big Macher drew post position No. 10 in the $1.5 million Sprint, with Tyler Baze named to ride. Big Macher is by Beau Genius, out of the Kris S. mare Insight, was bred by Ballena Vista Farm, is owned by Tom Mansor and Tachycardia Stables and is trained by Richard Baltas. He has five wins in 12 starts, earnings of $496,678 and is coming off a sixth in the Aug. 24 Pat O’Brien. He is 12-1 on the morning line for the Sprint.

Defending champion Secret Circle drew post position No. 4 in the $1.5 million Sprint. He is a Kentucky-bred by California stallion Eddington, out of the Dixieland Band mare Ragtime Hope, was bred by Willmott Stables, is owned by Mike Pegram, Karl Watson & Paul Weitman and is trained by Bob Baffert. He has seven wins in 11 starts, earnings of $1,954,790 and is coming off a third in the Oct. 4 Santa Anita Sprint Championship.  He also won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile three years ago. He is 9-2 on the morning line for the Sprint.

Also, unbeaten Blue Dancer drew post position No. 3 in the $2 million Juvenile. He is a Kentucky-bred by California stallion Bluegrass Cat, out of the Saint Ballado mare Two Halos, was bred by Keene Ridge Racing, is owned by Derby Quest Farms and Shot in the Dark Racing and is trained by Greg Tracy. He is 4-for-4 with earnings of $109,089, coming off a win in the Oct. 13 Ascot Graduation Stakes. He is 30-1 on the morning line for the Juvenile.
