Cal-bred Trio Enters Eddie D.

ARCADIA, Calif. (Sept. 25, 2012) – California-breds Crimson Giant, Red Sun and Mensa Heat are included in a full field entered for Friday’s inaugural $100,000 Grade III Eddie D. Stakes on Santa Anita’s opening-day card.

Crimson Giant is by Formal Gold, out of the Exclusive Era mare Mia Lena, was bred by owner Bryan Carney and is trained by Charles Stutts. He has one win in 17 starts, earnings of $60,678 and is coming off a second in an Aug. 31 optional claimer.

Red Sun is by Redattore, out of the Affirmed mare Sunny Sara, was bred by owner Harris Farms and is trained by Carla Gaines. He has five wins in nine starts, earnings of $227,988 and is coming off a second in an Aug. 30 optional claimer.

Mensa Heat is by Unusual Heat, out of the Ole mare Chi Chi Nette, was bred by Madeline Auerbach and David Abrams, is owned by Randall Ho, Westside Rentals.com and Doug O’Neill and trained by Leandro Mora. He has nine wins in 47 starts, earnings of $493,718 and is coming off a second in the Sept. 5 Pirate’s Bounty.
