ARCADIA, Calif. (Sept. 27, 2011) – Early Bird nominations for California Cup XXII close this Saturday, Oct. 1. Santa Anita Park will host the nine-race card worth more than $800,000 exclusively to California-bred and California-sired runners on Saturday, Oct. 29.
The card will include two maiden special weight races, two allowance races and five black-type stakes: the $175,000 Cal Cup Classic at 1 1/8 miles on turf (for the first time); $125,000 Cal Cup Distaff for fillies and mares at about 6 ½ furlongs on the hillside turf course; and three $100,000 races on Santa Anita’s new dirt track – the Cal Cup Sprint at six furlongs and the Cal Cup Juvenile and Cal Cup Juvenile Fillies for 2-year-olds, both at 1 1/16 miles.
The annual gala party, this year entitled “The Art of Racing,” will be held in Santa Anita’s Club Court and Club Plaza. Previously held in Santa Anita’s infield area, the new location will afford attendees excellent viewing and comfortable accommodations in addition to a spectacular Cal Cup buffet, open bar and festive decorations.
Admission to the “Art of Racing” Cal Cup Party is $85 per person which includes parking, program, admission, a beautiful Cal Cup T-shirt, the Cal Cup buffet and open bar, throughout the race day. Groups may also reserve 10-seat tables for $850.00, which includes all of the afore-mentioned amenities.
Walk-up admission to the Cal Cup Party will also be available for $85 per person, on an as-available basis.
