Cal Cup Nominations Close Oct. 16

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Aug. 26, 2010) – Regular nominations for California Cup XXI, to be run at Hollywood Park Saturday, Oct. 30, close on Saturday, Oct. 16.

The seven-stakes card for California-bred or –sired will be worth $700,000. Regular nominations received by Oct. 16 range are $500 each. Supplementary nominations at time of entry range from $2,250 to $4,500, depending on the race. Contact the Hollywood Park racing office to nominate.

The seven stakes:
    $150,000 Cal Cup Classic presented by City National Bank for 3 & Up at 1 1/8 miles.
    $100,000 John C. Mabee Cal Cup Mile for 3 & Up at one mile (turf).
    $100,000 Donald Valpredo Cal Cup Sprint for 3 & Up at six furlongs.
    $100,000 CTT/TOC Cal Cup Matron for F&M 3 & Up at 1 1/16 miles.
    $100,000 John Deere Cal Cup Distaff for F&M 3 & Up (distance TBD).
    $75,000 Bob Benoit Cal Cup Juvenile for C&G 2 Yrs. at 1 1/16 miles.
    $75,000 Robert H. Walter Cal Cup Juvenile Fillies for F 2 Yrs. at 1 1/16 miles.

The rest of the card will consist of three maiden special weight races for Cal-breds and Cal–sireds.

This year, the popular California Cup Party theme is Halloween Boo-nanza and will be held on the frontside in Ascot Terrace.

The party has become a very special part of the California Cup celebration and last fall more than 1,500 people filled the section of infield reserved for supporters of the California thoroughbred breeding and racing industry.
