Cal Cup at Santa Anita Oct. 29

ARCADIA, Calif. (Aug. 17, 2011) – The 22nd renewal of California Cup has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29, when Santa Anita Park in Arcadia will host nine races worth more than $800,000 exclusively to California-bred and California-sired runners.

Saturday, October 1, is the closing date for Early Bird Nominations for this popular annual day of racing that will feature two maiden special weight races, two allowance races and five black-type stakes: the $175,000 Cal Cup Classic at 1 1/8 miles on turf (for the first time); $125,000 Cal Cup Distaff for fillies and mares at about 6 ½ furlongs on the hillside turf course; and three $100,000 races on Santa Anita’s new dirt track – the Cal Cup Sprint at six furlongs and the Cal Cup Juvenile and Cal Cup Juvenile Fillies, both at 1 1/16 miles.
