Calimonco Sires First Winner

ARCADIA, Calif. (June 16, 2016) — Ballena Vista Farm freshman sire Calimonco was represented by his first winner when 2-year-old filly My California powered to a 9 1/4-length, wire-to-wire victory in a $57,035 maiden special weight at Santa Anita on Thursday in her second start. Her time for the 5 furlongs over a fast track was 58.06.

Bred in California by owner Mercedes Stables, LLC and trained by Robertino Diodoro, My California is the first foal from Give My Regards, a winning daughter of Smart Strike and half-sister to graded winner Broadway Empire and Grade II-placed Cinderella’s Dream.

Calimonco, a Grade II-placed, stakes-winning full brother to Storm Cat’s grade I winners and Breeders’ Cup champions Sweet Catomine and Life Is Sweet, retired with earnings of $391,486. He currently stands at Ballena Vista Farm in Ramona for a stud fee of $1,500 live foal.
