From Santa Anita Publicity ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 13, 2012) – California-bred Caracortado, out with an injury since January, will not make the Nov. 3 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, trainer Mike Machowsky said on Saturday.
Caracortado last raced in the Jan. 8 Daytona Stakes at Santa Anita, but suffered a burn on the frog of his right front foot.
“Too much time has passed and it’s getting too close,” said Machowsky. The ailment, in lay terms, is on “an interal component of the hoof. You have to give horses proper time to get over things. Now there’s no rush at all. I’m just going to try and get him right and ready for the big meet, somewhere around there (Dec. 26).
"We shod him Friday and the foot actually looks pretty good. But too much time has passed to make the Breeders’ Cup with him.”
