Caracortado Returns in Sensational Star

ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 22, 2012) – Sensational Daytona Stakes winner Caracortado, defending champion Compari and half-brothers Luckarack and Tamarack Smarty meet in Saturday’s $100,000 Sensational Star Stakes for California-breds at Santa Anita.

Caracortado is by Cat Dreams, out of the Maria’s Mon mare Mons Venus, was bred by Mike Machowsky, is owned by AJL Productions, Blahut Racing and Lo Hi Racing and trained by Machowsky. He has nine wins in 19 starts, earnings of $864,105 and is coming off an out-of-the-clouds win in the Jan. 8 Daytona Stakes.

Luckarack is by Lucky Pulpit, out of the Dehere mare Tamarack Bay, was bred by Mr. and Mrs. Larry Williams, is owned by W.C. Racing, Westside Rentals.com and Russ Sarno and is trained by Doug O’Neill. He has seven wins in 17 starts, earnings of $287,770 and is coming off a fourth in the Dec. 26 Malibu.

Ain’t No Other is by Old Topper, out of the Shadeed mare Miami Margie, was bred by owner Tommy Town Thoroughbreds and is trained by Steve Miyadi. He has six wins in 12 starts, earnings of $224,123 and is coming off a second in a Dec. 16 allowance.

Tamarack Smarty is by Smart Strike, out of the Dehere mare Tamarack Bay, was bred by owners Mr. and Mrs. Larry Williams and is trained by Mike Puype. He has three wins in 18 starts, earnings of $219,776 and is coming off a second in a Dec. 18 optional claimer.

Compari is by Redattore, out of the Dixieland Band mare Southern Charm, was bred by owners Harris Farms, John Nicoletti and Don Valpredo and is trained by Marty Jones. He has seven wins in 13 starts, earnings of $510,430 and is coming off a win in a Jan. 5 optional claimer.

My Summer Slew is by Siberian Summer, out of the Slewpy mare My Bouquet, was bred by owner Nick Cafarchia and is trained by Craig Dollase. He has five wins in 20 starts, earnings of $238,714 and is coming off a second in a Jan. 1 $50,000 claimer.

Mega Heat is by Unusual Heat, out of the Native Prospector mare Laguna Sunrise, was bred by Madeline Auerbach, is owned by Sharon Alesia, Ciaglia Racing and Rob Dyrdek and trained by Peter Eurton. He has four wins in eight starts, earnings of $128,340 and is making his first start since a fourth in the Oct. 29 California Cup Classic.
