INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Oct. 27, 2010) – High-weighted Cost of Freedom drew the rail in a field of five entered for Saturday’s $100,000 Donald Valpredo California Cup Sprint Stakes, the first race on the Cal Cup card at Oak Tree at Hollywood Park.
Cost of Freedom is by Cee’s Tizzy, out of the Moscow Ballet mare Freedom Dance, was bred by Harris Farms, is owned by Gary and Cecil Barber and trained by John Sadler. The former Grade I winner, third in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint, has eight wins in 18 starts, earnings of $692,263 and is coming off a fourth in the Oct. 9 Ancient Title.
A Lil Dumaani is by Dumaani, out of the In Excess mare A Lil Excess, was bred by Ren Mar Thoroughbreds, is owned by Gary and Cecil Barber and trained by Peter Miller. He has six wins in 24 starts, earnings of $329,157 and is coming off a second in an Oct. 15 optional claimer.
Goggles McCoy is by In Excess, out of the Slew City Slew mare Swahili Song, was bred by owners Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shapiro and is trained by Steve Sherman. He has four wins in five starts, earnings of $126,160 and is coming off a fourth in the Sept. 3 El Cajon.
My Summer Slew is by Siberian Summer, out of the Slewpy mare My Bouquet, was bred by owner Nick Cafarchia and is trained by Craig Dollase. The Barretts graduate has five wins in 15 starts, earnings of $212,912 and is coming off a ninth in the Sept. 6 Turf Monster Handicap.
Runaway Bandido is by Runaway Groom, out of the Green Dancer mare Sceptre’s Own, was bred by Charlotte Wrather, is owned by Judi Partridge and trained by Rafael Becerra. The $15,000 Barretts purchase has one win in 13 starts, earnings of $101,747 and is coming off a fifth in an Oct. 15 allowance. He was third in the 2009 Cal Cup Juvenile.
