Grazen Sky Wins Silky Sullivan

ALBANY, Calif. (Apr. 26, 2015) – Grazen Sky, going two turns for the first time, won Sunday’s $100,000 Silky Sullivan Stakes for Golden State Series eligible 3-year-olds at Golden Gate.

Grazen Sky is by Grazen, out of the Sky Mesa mare Sky Marni, was bred by owner Nick Alexander and is trained by Steven Miyadi.

He has three wins in six starts, earnings of $176,800 and was coming off a second in the Apr. 4 Echo Eddie.

Grazen Sky ran the mile on turf in 1:38 and won by 1 ¼ lengths as the 6-5 favorite. Pulmarack was second and Cardiac third in the field of six after morning-line favorite Richard’s Boy scratched.

After conceding the early lead to Cardiac, Grazen Sky moved up to challenge the pacesetter at the top of the lane and then took command in the final sixteenth of a mile.
“At first I didn’t think he was handling the turf that good,” said jockey Ricardo Gonzalez.  “He was actually just kind of hanging in there.  On the backside he felt a little more comfortable and actually started running.  He got real comfortable turning for home, and at the sixteenth pole he really took off.  That’s when I felt a nice kick.”
