Halo Dolly Wins Miss America

ALBANY, Calif. (Oct. 20, 2012) – Halo Dolly led a California-bred sweep of the top three places while winning Saturday’s $64,300 Miss America Stakes for fillies and mares at Golden Gate.

Halo Dolly is by Popular, out of the Comic Strip mare Spanish Halo, was bred by Rod and Lorraine Rodriguez, is owned by Hollendorfer, Hoefflin, Hoefflin, Todaro, Schneider et al and is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer.

She has 14 wins in 24 starts, earnings of $666,896 and was coming off an eighth in the Sept. 29 Flower Bowl Invitational.

Halo Dolly ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.72 and won by 1 ¾ lengths as the 4-5 favorite. Sweetly Peppered was second and Going for  a Spin was third.
