Heatseeker Euthanized at 14

COALINGA, Calif. (Dec. 30, 2016) — Stallion Heatseeker (2003 h., by Giant’s Causeway out of Rusty Back, by Defensive Play) was euthanized on December 27 at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the University of California, Davis due to injuries incurred in a paddock accident at Harris Farms. The 14-year-old G1 winning millionaire entered stud in 2009 at Hill ‘n Dale Farm in Kentucky and moved to Harris Farms in 2012.

Bred in Ireland by Richard F. Barnes, Heatseeker broke his maiden in Ireland at first asking and was G1 placed as a 2-year-old. Campaigned by William Deburgh and trained by Robert Frankel, Heatseeker moved to North America and won an allowance race and was stakes placed at Hollywood Park as a 4-year-old. After transferring to Jerry Hollendorfer’s barn, Heatseeker went on to win the Native Diver H. G3, Santa Anita H. G1 and Californian Stakes G2 while setting four track records and retiring with earnings of $1,177,778.

From five crops to race, Heatseeker has sired 189 foals of racing age and 10 stakes winner including multiple G1 winner and Peruvian champion Ryan’s Charm, G3T stakes winner Speed Seeker ($266,338), multiple stakes winners Surtsey ($370,333) and Catholic Cowboy ($461,489), 2016 two year old stakes winner Isa Firecracker and earners of $5,957,191.
