PHOENIX, Ariz. (Apr. 23, 2016) – Arizona-bred Scrap Iron, from the first crop of California stallion Informed, became his sire’s first stakes winner with his victory in Saturday’s $50,076 Gene Fleming Breeders’ Derby at Turf Paradise.
His time for the 1 1/16 miles on the main track was 1:44.98.
The 3-year-old gelding, bred by owner Roger P. Downes and trained by Kevin Eikleberry, is the second foal from the Atticus mare Pagan Baby.
Informed, a graded stakes winner of $521.349 by Tiznow, stands at Ridgeley Farm near Hemet, Calif., for $2,500 live foal.
