NorCal Sale Average Up 17%

PLEASANTON, Calif. (Aug. 16, 2011) – A full sister to the stakes-winning sale graduate Sherman Bartlebort was the $40,000 topper at Tuesday’s 2011 Northern California Yearling and Horses of Racing Age Sale, reflecting a solid increase in average price from last year.

The filly by Tannersmyman, out of the Swiss Yodeler mare Alpenwald, was consigned by Woodbridge Farm, bred by Woodbridge Farm and James Eaton and purchased by R.B. Hess, agent. Her brother, Sherman Bartlebort, won the Everett Nevin Alameda County Futurity for 2-year-olds and has earned $69,970 after being sold last year for $6,500.

That $40,000 sale-topping price for a yearling doubled the high from last year’s sale and fueled a 17 percent increase in the overall average from the 2010 sale. It is the highest price from the sale since a $40,000 purchase in 2007.

The highest-priced colt was by Stormin Fever, out of the Stop the Music mare Greny. He was consigned by Woodbridge Farm, bred by Eileen Matson and purchased by Jeff Bonde, agent for Sierra Sunset, for $20,000.

In Tuesday’s sale, the eighth presented in Northern California in its current format by CTBA, 70 hips brought gross sales of $357,900, an average of $5,113 and a median price of $2,700.

Last year, 82 individuals brought gross sales of $357,400, an average of $4,359 and a median price of $3,000. There were 39 buybacks this year compared to 53 last year.
