Sherman Bartlebort, a $6,500 purchase at last year’s Northern California Yearling Sale, won Saturday’s $62,010 Everett Nevin Alameda County Futurity for 2-year-olds at Pleasanton. Sherman Bartlebort is by Tannersmyman, out of the Swiss Yodeler mare Alpenwald, was bred by Woodbridge Farm and James Eaton, is owned by Eaton, Peter Finch, R.B. Hess and David Perez and is trained by Hess. He has earnings of $69,970.
And Excessive Passion, a $25,000 purchase at the 2008 Northern California Yearling Sale, won Sunday’s $50,000 Sam J. Whiting Memorial Handicap, also at Pleasanton. Excessive Passion is by Vronsky, out of the In Excess mare Ms Hearts N Arrows, was bred by Old English Rancho and Berumen, is owned by Rusty Brown, Philip Lebherz and Alan Klein and trained by Jeff Bonde. He has earnings of $143,940.
This year’s sale will be held at the Alameda County Fairgrounds Tuesday, Aug. 16, beginning at noon. There are 123 horses cataloged.
Since the sale returned under the direction of the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association in 2004, it has produced stakes winners such as Bai and Bai, an earner of $724,983; Grade II winner Sierra Sunset; and Grade III winner Autism Awareness.
