One Fast Broad in Soviet Problem

CYPRESS, Calif. (Nov. 29, 2017) – One Fast Broad, a last-to-first winner of the Golden State Juvenile Fillies Nov. 3 at Del Mar, will attempt to stay undefeated on dirt in the $100,000-guaranteed Soviet Problem Stakes for Golden State Series eligibles Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Restricted to 2-year-old fillies bred or sired in California, the one-mile Soviet Problem is the eighth of nine races. Post time Saturday is 12:30 p.m. Approximate post for the afternoon’s main event is 4 p.m.

Owned by trainer Mick Ruis’ Ruis Racing LLC, One Fast Broad overcame a slow start after breaking from the inside post nearly four weeks ago to prevail by one length.

A daughter of Decarchy and the Mr. Broad Blade mare Awesome Broad, One Fast Broad is 2-for-2 on the main track, having won first time out going six furlongs Aug. 4 at Del Mar. She was bred by Richard Allen Kritzski and AGR Racing

She has banked $172,000 in four starts. She has been second and fourth in two stakes on grass – the Juvenile Fillies Turf and Surfer Girl – at the Soviet Problem distance.

Spiced Perfection, who was second in the Golden State Juvenile Fillies, will try two turns for the first time for Dare to Dream Stable LLC and trainer Brian Koriner. She was bred by Premier Thoroughbreds.

The Smiling Tiger filly out of the Pleasantly Perfect mare Perfect Feat has won twice in five starts – including the Generous Portion Stakes Aug. 30 – and earned $148,200.

Ismelucky will be seeking her second stakes victory at Los Alamitos for Jerome Russell and trainer Jeff Bonde. The Lucky Pulpit filly out of the Tribal Rule mare Ismene won the Barretts Debutante as the 6-5 favorite during the Los Angeles County Fair meet in September.

A $90,000 purchase at the Barretts October 2016 sale bred by Stephen Ferraro, Ismelucky is 2-for-4 with a bankroll of $120,420. She finished fourth in the Golden State Juvenile.

Bonde also entered Twisted Rosie, who has won two in a row for owner-breeder Edward J. Brown. The Twice the Appeal filly out of the Distinctive Cat mare Hurricane Rose has banked $45,600 in three starts.

Pulpit Rider, who finished sixth in the GS Juvenile, will try to rebound Saturday for owner-breeders Mr. and Mrs. Larry Williams and trainer Mike Puype.

The daughter of Lucky Pulpit and the Ride the Rails mare Lady Railrider has won two of four and earned $71,800.

Neon Gypsy will be making her initial start on dirt after running twice at Golden Gate Fields on the synthetic Tapeta surface and on turf.

Trained by Bob Hess, Jr. for breeder-owner Schroeder Farms LLC, the Square Eddie filly out of the Modigliani mare Gypsy Baby is 1-for-2 and has earned $24,600. She won first time out going six furlongs Sept. 9 before finishing third in the Pike Place Dancer Oct. 28 on grass.

Trainer Gary Sherlock entered a pair – Empress of Lov and My Claw – in the Soviet Problem.

A daughter of Empire Way and the Not for Love mare Angela’s Love, Empress of Lov has one win in eight starts and earnings of $76,240 for a partnership that includes Tom London, Eugene Zondlo and breeder Terry Lovingier.

My Claw is a five-race maiden with earnings of $13,090. The gray Pioneerof the Nile filly out of the Katowice mare Enumclaw Girl is owned by breeder Lovingier, Bada Beng Racing LLC and Victor Flores.

Bella Style and Carpathia are both last out maiden winners.

Trained by Hector Palma for co-breeder Robert J. Riggio, Bella Style, an Unusual Heat filly out of the Lucayan Prince mare Always in Style, is 1-for-3 with a bankroll of $33,345.  She graduated in her turf debut Oct. 29 at Santa Anita.

Owned by breeder Nick Alexander and trained by Phil D’Amato, Carpathia won by nearly two lengths going six furlongs Nov. 5 at Del Mar after a troubled trip in her Los Alamitos debut Sept. 10.

The Exchange Rate filly out of the Malek mare Melinda Rose has banked $31,545 in two starts.
