Rivalry Renewed in Cal Cup Mile

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Oct. 27, 2010) – Liberian Freighter and Colgan’s Chip, separated by a nose in the recent Oak Tree Mile, get a rematch in Saturday’s $100,000 John C. Mabee California Cup Mile presented by TVG Stakes at Oak Tree at Hollywood Park.

Tiz Argent is by Tizbud, out of the Lord Avie mare Classy Lass, was bred by Michael Cooper and Pamela Ziebarth, is owned by Ziebarth and trained by John Sadler. He has two wins in four starts, earnings of $69,480 and is coming off a win in an Oct. 15 allowance. This is his stakes debut.

Pop’shands Are Hot is by Unusual Heat, out of the Kipper Kelly mare Kitten’s Sister, was bred by Kevin Matties, is owned by Gary Magolis, Westside Rentals.com and W C Racing. He has one win in 22 starts, earnings of $113,440 and is coming off a second in an Oct. 15 allowance. This is his stakes debut.

Colgan’s Chip is by Cee’s Tizzy, out of the Theatrical mare Leaning Tower, was bred by Richard Masson, is owned by Green Lantern Stable and trained by Jenine Sahadi. He has four wins in 12 starts, earnings of $212,712 and lost by a nose to Liberian Freighter in the Oct. 9 Oak Tree Mile.

Jiggly is by In Excess, out of the Wild Again mare Fortunee, was bred by owner Legacy Ranch and trained by William Morey Jr. He has five wins in 16 starts, earnings of $164,054 and is coming off a fourth in an Aug. 22 $80,000 claimer.

Bruce’s Dream is by Atticus, out of the Smokester mare Remember Dorothy, was bred by Bruce Corwin, is owned by Corwin Racing and trained by Mike Puype. He has five wins in seven starts, earnings of $233,940 and is coming off a third in the Aug. 28 Del Mar Mile.

Liberian Freighter is by Bertrando, out of the Slewpy mare Anachristina, was bred by King Edward Racing Stable, is owned by Shawn Dugan, King Edward and Charles Winner and trained by Neil Drysdale. He has eight wins in 22 starts, earnings of $571,740 and is coming off a nose win over Colgan’s Chip in the Oct. 9 Oak Tree Mile. He was third in this race in 2008 at Santa Anita.
