ARCADIA, Calif. (June 25, 2015) — Longtime Thoroughbred trainer Sandy Shulman died on June 21. He was 78.
According to the Daily Racing Form, Shulman operated a photography business in Southern California and owned racehorses in the early 1980s. He enjoyed being around horses and decided to pursue a training career.
Over the next 30 years, Shulman saddled several graded stakes winners in California, and won two training titles at Hollywood Park. He trained graded stakes winners Thirst for Peace, Champion Lodge, and Abaginone.
Shulman was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ina Sue. He is survived by his adult children, Leonard and Eileen. Services are scheduled for June 26 at Mount Sinai, 5950 Forest Lawn Dr., Los Angeles.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation or Downtown Dog Rescue.
