Seven Stakes at Los Alamitos

CYPRESS, Calif. (May 6, 2014) — The Los Alamitos summer Thoroughbred meeting will feature seven stakes, including two Grade 2 races previously run at Hollywood Park under different names.

The track’s summer meeting will run eight days, July 3-13, replacing racing dates previously held by Hollywood Park, which closed for development last December.

The highlight of the Los Alamitos meeting will be the $500,000 Los Alamitos Derby on July 5, a Grade 2 race over 1 1/8 miles. The race was previously run at Hollywood Park as the Swaps Stakes and was worth $150,000 in 2013. The distance is unchanged.

The meeting’s second weekend will be highlighted by the $200,000 Great Lady M Stakes for fillies and mares over 6 1/2 furlongs July 12. The Grade 2 race was previously run as the A Gleam Handicap over seven furlongs at Hollywood Park.

The 2013 running of the A Gleam included a fees-paid berth to the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint through the Win and You’re In program. The Great Lady M Stakes is not part of that program this year.

Two $100,000 stakes for juveniles previously run at Hollywood Park will continue at Los Alamitos. The open Willard Proctor Memorial Stakes and the Cinderella Stakes for fillies will be run over six furlongs July 13, the final day of the meeting.

The races were previously run over 5 1/2 furlongs at Hollywood Park in June. The prize money is the same as for the 2013 runnings.
