Smiling Tiger Gets First Winner

PLEASANTON, Calif. (June 24, 2017) — Jacks Masterpiece made an impressive debut in taking a maiden special weight race by four-plus lengths at the Oak Tree at Pleasanton meet, giving stsallion Smiling Tiger his first winner.

The bay colt is out of the $362,553 stakes-winning Marty’s Zee, by Candi’s Gold and he was bred by Martin W. Bach.

Running under the ownership of Bach, Lynn Gitomer and Daniel Weiner, Jacks Masterpiece earned $20,280 for the win plus the Cal-bred bonus of $10,000. Jacks Masterpiece was trained for his winning journey by William E. Morey.

Smiling Tiger was campaigned by Alan Klein and Philip Lebherz and trained by Jeff Bonde to nine wins, two seconds and eight thirds from 23 lifetime starts. Winning three Grade One events and placing twice in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, Smiling Tiger earned $1,480,704.

With his first crop of 72 foals racing this year, Smiling Tiger has also sired the twice placed Spiced Perfection an earner of $17,280 and the placed filly Miss Shirley C.

Smiling Tiger stood for $4,000 live foal at Harris Farms during the 2017 breeding season.
