Solana Beach Tribute to Unusual Heat

DEL MAR, Calif. (Aug. 6, 2017) – Five of the eight entrants in Friday’s $150,000 Solana Beach Stakes for Golden State Series-eligible fillies and mares at Del Mar are offspring of the late sire, Unusual Heat, including defending champion Majestic Heat.

Moonless Sky is by Bold Chieftain, out of the Chief’s Crown mare Curtsy, was bred by Willow Tree Farm, is owned by Pappas Racing and trained by Eddie Truman. She has four wins in nine starts, earnings of $181,150 and is coming off a fourth in a July 19 optional claimer.

Majestic Heat is by Unusual Heat, out of the Ole mare Chi Chi Nette, was bred by Madeline Auerbach and Barry Abrams, is owned by Auerbach, McCauley or Bardy Farm and is trained by Richard Mandella. She has four wins in 11 starts, earnings of $267,139 and is making her first start since fourth in the Nov. 6 Goldikova. She won this race last year.

Qiaona is by Wilko, out of the Skywalker mare Starlet Sky, was bred by B & B Zietz Stable, is owned by Curt and Lila Lanning and trained by Ed Moger, Jr. She has seven wins in 40 starts, earnings of $653,970 and is coming off a seventh in a July 4 optional claimer. She was second in this race in 2014.

Starlite Style is by Unusual Heat, out of the Lucayan Prince mare Always in Style, was bred by Old English Rancho & Riggio, is owned by Robert Riggio and trained by Hector Palma. She has three wins in 14 starts, earnings of $195,728 and is coming off three consecutive wins.

Lynne’s Legacy is by Unusual Heat, out of the Steinlen mare Top of Our Game, was bred by Harris Farms, is owned by DP Racing and trained by James Cassidy. She has two wins in 14 starts, earnings of $127,558 and is coming off a ninth in a June 10 optional claimer.

How Unusual is by Unusual Heat, out of the Bartok mare Veela, was bred by Madeline Auerbach and Barry Abrams, is owned by Fetkin, Sill or St. Hillaire, et al and is trained by Michael Pender. She has three wins in 15 starts, earnings of $172,887 and is coming off a second in a July 19 optional claimer. She was sixth in this race last year.

Dressed to a T is by Square Eddie, out of the Kendor mare Clerical Error, was bred by owner Reddam Racing and trained by Ben Cecil. She has four wins in 16 starts, earnings of $223,277 and is coming off a seventh in the July 21 Osunitas.
