Tilde Wins Another Stakes

DEL MAR, Calif. (Aug. 29, 2012) -- Tilde, bred, owned and trained by Mike Harrington, held off the late charge of 19-1 longshot Awe’Some Kitten to win Wednesday’s  featured $150,000 Generous Portion Stakes for California-bred two-year-old fillies.

With Rafael Bejarano aboard for his 11th stakes success of the Del Mar season, Tilde, the 8-5 favorite, prevailed by three-quarters of a length over the fast-closing Awe’Some Kitten, piloted by Corey Nakatani.

“This was a very good race for her,” said Bejarano. “She’s running now with lots of confidence. She showed she can come from behind today. She’s just getting better and better. We’ll see where she goes from here.”

Boller Bomb faded to third after looming menacingly at the top of the stretch, 1 ¼ lengths behind the runner-up and a neck in front of fourth-place Akiss Forarose.

Tilde, winner of Del Mar’s CTBA Stakes in her previous race, ran the six furlongs in 1:11.42 and returned $5.20, $3.40 and $2.60 after notching her third win in four races. With $85,500 as first prize, her earnings now total $195,060. She is a daughter of Swiss Yodeler out of the Cee’s Tizzy mare Self Taught.

“This is how you want horses to run,” Harrington said of Tilde, who wired the field in the CTBA Stakes.  The last two races she has just kind of kicked away in the lane, which is kind of impressive.”

Harrington said Tilde’s next start would probably be the $250,000 California Cup Juvenile Fillies on Oct. 13 at Santa Anita at 1 1/16 miles.

“Who knows if she’ll want to run that far, but she might. She might,” he said.
