California Chrome’s Bid Ends

ELMONT, N.Y. (June 7, 2014) — California Chrome finished in a dead-heat for fourth in Saturday’s $1.5 million, Grade I Belmont Stakes, ending his attempt to become the first California-bred Triple Crown winner in history and the sport’s first Triple Crown winner in 36 years.

According to DRF, California Chrome returned with a cut on his right front foot.

Tonalist won the race, followed by Commissioner and Medal Count. California Chrome finished in a tie with Wicked Strong for fourth.

The son of Lucky Pulpit, who previously won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, is out of the Not For Love mare Love the Chase, was bred and owned by Steve Coburn and Perry Martin, trained by Art Sherman and was ridden by Victor Espinoza.
