Santa Anita Cancels Sunday Card

ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 22, 2017)–Santa Anita Park, which has received nearly 14 ½ inches of rain since Dec. 10, has cancelled live racing for Sunday due to safety concerns with heavy rainfall and wind expected throughout the day, which could bring an additional 3-6 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Santa Anita has received over three inches of rain since this past Thursday. With the National Weather Service predicting the heaviest rain to fall from 12:00 Noon on, track officials made the decision to cancel today’s eight-race program at 7:45 a.m.

Santa Anita will be open for simulcast wagering today and fans will be offered free General Admission and parking. Additionally, horsemen have been advised that an additional day of live racing will be added to Santa Anita’s racing schedule in the near future.

Santa Anita will reopen for live racing on Thursday, with first post time set for 1 p.m.
