Cal Cup Turf Classic is Top Grade

ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 25, 2017) – Five graded stakes winners, including millionaire Ashleyluvssugar, are among the entries in Saturday’s $250,000 California Cup Turf Classic for Golden State Series eligibles at Santa Anita.

Multiple graded winner Ashleyluvssugar is by Game Plan, out of the urgent Rquest mare Ashley’s Folly, was bred by owners Estate of Alesia, BranJam Stables and Ciaglia Racing and is trained by Peter Eurton. He has eight wins in 19 starts, earnings of $1,007,504 and is coming off a second in the Nov. 25 Hollywood Turf Cup.

Cardiac is by Papa Clem, out of the Unusual Heat mare Heatinaheartbeat, was bred by Madeline Auerbach, Marsha Naify, Barry Abrams & Onofrio Pecoraro, is owned by Ruis Racing and trained by Craig Dollase. He has three wins in 24 starts, earnings of $197,633 and is coming off an eighth in a Dec. 26 optional claimer.

He Will is by Cyclotron, out of the Lear Fan mare Could She, was bred by Old English Rancho, is owned by Randall, Schlaich or Team Green, et al, and is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer. He has five wins in 11 starts, earnings of $186,860 and is coming off an eighth in the Dec. 26 San Simeon. He was supplemented for the race.

Patriots Rule is by Tribal Rule, out of the Seattle Bound mare Candy Factory, was bred by Dahlberg Farms, is owned by Charles Garvey and trained by Robertino Diodoro. He has six wins in 23 starts, earnings of $422,420 and is making his first start since a sixth in the Oct. 30 Lure. He was third in this race two years ago.

Graded winner Poshsky is by Vronsky, out of the Bold Badgett mare Pinky’s Posh, was bred by Old English Rancho and Berumen, is owned by Jim or Ryan Hanson and is trained by Ryan Hanson. He has eight wins in 34 starts, earnings of $452,411 and is coming off a fifth Jan. 1 when claimed for $50,000.

Grade I winner Ralis is by Square Eddie, out of the Ten Most Wanted mare Silar Rules, was bred by owner Reddam Racing and is trained by Doug O’Neill. He has two wins in 16 starts, earnings of $424,428 and is coming off a ninth in the Nov. 5 Breeders’ Cup Turf.

Temple Keys is by Temple City, out of the Fusaichi Pegasus mare Camas Creek, was bred by Linda Madsen & Joy Seifert, is owned by JK Racing Stable and trained by Richard Baltas. He has two wins in 19 starts, earnings of $169,880 and is coming off a second in a Dec. 26 optional claimer.

Ward ‘n Jerry is by Lucky Pulpit, out of the Dehere mare Tamarack Bay, was bred by owners Mr. and Mrs. Larry Williams and trained by Mike Puype. He has three wins in nine starts, earnings of $127,065 and is coming off an eighth in a Jan. 2 optional claimer.

Multiple graded winner What a View is by Vronsky, out of the Manila mare Oceans N Mountains, was bred by Old English Rancho, Patsy Berumen and Sal Berumen, is owned by Finish Line Racing, the Ellwood Johnston Trust or Taste of Victory Stables and is trained by Kenny Black. He has six wins in 15 starts, earnings of $595,826 and is coming off a sixth in the Nov. 26 Seabiscuit. He won this race last year.

Multiple graded winner Tamarando is by Bertrando, out of the Dehere mare Tamarack Bay, was bred by owners Mr. and Mrs. Larry Williams and is trained by Jeff Bonde. He has four wins in 30 starts, earnings of $717,652 and is coming off a fourth in a Jan. 6 allowance. He was eighth in this race last year and ninth in 2015.
