ALBANY, Calif. (Sept. 3, 2018) –Millionaire Alert Bay, who won the race three years ago, on Sunday again won the $60,350 Rolling Green Stakes at Golden Gate.
Alert Bay is by City Zip, out of the Dushyantor mare Hickory, was bred by Thomas Bell & Ross McLeod, is owned by Peter Redekop and trained by Blaine Wright.
“[Alert Bay] has given us fantastic pleasure and excitement,” said winning owner Peter Redekop, who traveled to the Bay Area from his residence in Canada to watch his horse perform. “We’ve had good people looking after him and they’ve done a fabulous job with him.”
Winning trainer Blaine Wright, emotional after the win, was equally as excited after the victory.
“With a horse like this, you expect good things with him and we just try to point him in the right direction and get out of his way,” said Wright. “He’s probably a horse I can never replace. Sometimes it gets me choked up that I’ve gotten to train a horse this good. I’m very, very humbled.”
He has 15 wins in 35 starts, earnings of $1,331, 605 and was coming off a second in the Aug. 12 Longacres Mile. He won this race in 2015.
The 7-year-old ran the 1 1/16 miles on turf in 1:42.35 and won by 1 1/2 lengths as the 9-5 favorite in a field of nine.
