DEL MAR, Calif. (July 27, 2020) — West Point Thoroughbreds and partners’ Galilean won the $125,000 California Dreamin’ Stakes for Golden State Series eligibles by a half length Sunday at Del Mar, giving rider Flavien Prat his fourth stakes victory on the young meet’s sixth day.
The tally was also his third triumph on the 11-race card and propelled him into a three-way tie for the shore jockey crown with nine victories. Riders Umberto Rispoli and Abel Cedillo also have nine firsts.
Galilean was bred by Bar C Racing Stables, a 4-year-old colt by Uncle Mo, earned $71,250 for capturing the California-bred test, his first on turf. He covered the mile and one-sixteenth in 1:40.87 and, as the 6/5 favorite, returned $4.40, $3.80 and $2.80.
Second in the stakes was Reddam Racing’s Whooping Jay and third was Flawless Racing, Flanagan or Jarvis’ Brandothebartender.
Galilean, a $600,000 purchase at the Barrett’s April 2-year-old sale in 2018, now has earned $514,098 with five wins in 10 starts. He is conditioned by John Sadler, whose victory in the race was his 77th stakes score at Del Mar, tying him with Ron McAnally for second-most stakes in Del Mar history.
Racing resumes at Del Mar tomorrow with first post at 2 p.m.
