DEL MAR, Calif. (Oct. 27, 2021) – California-bred multiple graded stakes winners Lieutenant Dan and Acclimate have been pre-entered for Breeders’ Cup races on Championship Saturday, Nov. 6, at Del Mar.
Lieutenant Dan has been pre-entered in the $1 million Grade I Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, a five-furlong race to be run as the fifth race with a post time of 12:40 p.m. PT. Twelve will start with six also-eligibles.
Lieutenant Dan is by Grazen, out of the Indian Charlie mare Excusable, was bred by owner Nick Alexander and is trained by Steve Miyadi. He has eight wins in 16 starts, earnings of $663,740 and is coming off three consecutive wins, the most recent being the Oct. 1 Grade II Eddie D Stakes. He has won at this trip at Del Mar twice, included the Aug. 22 Green Flash Stakes.
Acclimate has been pre-entered in the $4 million Grade I Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf, a 1 ½ mile race to be run as the 11th race with a post time of 4:40 p.m. PT. Fourteen will start with four also-eligibles.
Acclimate is by Acclamation, out of the Boundary mare Know No Bounds, was bred by Old English Rancho, Sal Berumen & Patsy Berumen, is owned by The Ellwood Johnston Trust, Timmy Time Racing & Ken Tevelde and trained by Phil D’Amato. He has seven wins in 27 starts, earnings of $633,872 and is coming off a second in the Oct. 2 John Henry Turf Championship.
Also pre-entered is millionaire Mind Control, a Kentucky-bred son of California stallion Stay Thirsty, in the $1 million Grade I Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
