CYPRESS, Calif. (Dec. 9, 2021) – A come-from-behind winner of the Golden State Juvenile Nov. 5 at Del Mar, Finneus will stretch to two turns again in the $100,000 King Glorious Sunday.
Named in honor of the winner of the 1988 Hollywood Futurity and 1989 Haskell, the King Glorious is restricted to 2-year-olds bred or sired in California. The race at one mile is the feature attraction on the final day of the Winter Thoroughbred meet.
Post time Sunday is 12 Noon. The King Glorious, which is the last of 11 races, has a scheduled post time of 4:58 p.m.
A son of Stay Thirsty and the Ghostzapper mare My Fiona – who won the 2014 Soviet Problem Stakes at Los Alamitos – Finneus defeated Show Down Andy and 10 others in the Golden State, prevailing by a half-length under jockey Joel Rosario.
Owned by Naseer Mohammed Fasihuddin, Amanda Navarro and breeder Terry Lovingier and trained by Walther Solis, Finneus has won twice in six starts and earned $246,366. He will be making his Los Alamitos debut.
Solis also entered another son of Stay Thirsty. Thirsty Always, who is out of the Not for Love mare Angela’s Love, has been idle since winning the Royal Owl Stakes during the Los Angeles County Fair meet in September.
Thirsty Always has won three of five and earned $147,600 for breeder Lovingier, Tom Beckerle and Saul Carrillo.
Straight Up G will stretch out for owner-breeder Jungle Racing LLC and trainer Richard Baltas after an easy maiden victory Nov. 21. The Straight Fire colt out of the Sky Mesa mare Gidget Gare, who was fourth in his debut, has earned $45,660.
Los Alamitos graduate Fast Draw Munnings returns to the scene of his Sept. 17 debut score after finishing third in the Golden State Juvenile, defeating 1 ¼ lengths by Finneus.
Bred by Glenn Porter and trained by Jeff Mullins for Red Baron’s Barn LLC and Rancho Temescal, the Munnings colt out of the Bedford Falls mare Zuzu’s Petals has banked $48,600.
Fowler Blue tries more ground after defeating $50,000 maidens Nov. 28 for owner-breeders William Branch and Arnold Hill and trainer Luis Mendez. The Curlin to Mischief gelding out of the Unusual Heat mare Roses for Joni has earned $33,080 in four starts.
Unplaced in the Golden State Juvenile, Moose Mitchell will be racing beyond seven furlongs for the first time for R L Stables and trainer George Papaprodromou. The Danzing Candy gelding out of the City Zip mare Sunrise Avenue is 1-for-6 with earnings of $77,700. He was bred by Kathleen Kennedy.
A distant fourth in the Golden State when dispatched at 88-1, Socal Red will stretch to the distance of his maiden win, a 55-1 shocker against $50,000 claimers Aug. 19.
Trained by Steve Knapp for Thomsen Racing LLC, the Lookin At Lucky colt out of the Cee’s Tizzy mare Tiz Elemental is 1-for-5 with a bankroll of $33,600. He was bred by Williamson Racing.
A first out turf winner at the King Glorious distance, So I’m Told will seek a repeat for owner-breeder J. Paul Reddam’s Reddam Racing LLC and trainer Edward Freeman.
The Square Eddie colt out of the Flower Alley mare Bas defeated eight opponents in his Sept. 3 bow. He collected $42,000.
Divine Feminine, who shocked $50,000 maidens when 41-1 in his sprint debut Nov. 3, will try 2 ½ more furlongs for Belico Racing LLC, Mojarro Racing LLC and trainer Lorenzo Ruiz.
The Misremembered gelding out of the Silver Train mare Annie Rutledge banked $21,600 for the win. He was bred by Richard Barton Enterprises.
