SUNLAND PARK, N.M. (Dec. 29, 2023) – Defending champion and Northern California Yearling Sale graduate Minister of Soul and fellow California-bred multiple stakes winner Good With People are among the entries in Friday’s $65,000 KLAQ Handicap at Sunland Park.
Minister of Soul is by Ministers Wild Cat, out of the Bernstein mare Sensitive Soul, was bred by Dahlberg Farms and is owned by trainer Esteban Martinez. The 10-year-old, purchased for $16,000 at the Northern California Yearling Sale, has 18 wins in 62 starts, earnings of $575,822 and is coming off a win in a Dec. 20 allowance. In addition to winning this race on New Years Day of 2023, he was third in 2022, fifth in 2019 and fifth in 2018.
Good With People is by Curlin to Mischief, out of the Roar of the Tiger mare Gator Prowl, was bred by owners J. Kirk and Judy Robinson and trained by Todd Fincher. He has five wins in 16 starts, earnings of $402,972 and is coming off a second in a Nov. 25 optional claimer.
Another Cal-bred entered is Prayer of Jabez who is by Stanford, out of the Kafwain mare Alwazabridesmaid, was bred by Tommy Town Thoroughbreds, is owned by Anthony DeMarco and trained by Edward Kereluk. He has five wins in 24 starts, earnings of $167,426 and is coming off a second in the Nov. 28 Zia Park Sprint Stakes.
