Cal-bred Pair Enters W. Va. Governor’s Stakes

NEW CUMBERLAND, W. Va. (July 30, 2024) – California-bred stakes winner Play Chicken and California Thoroughbred Breeders Association January Sale grad Discretionary Day are entered in Sunday’s $200,000 West Virginia Governor’s Stakes at Mountaineer.

Discretionary Day is by Acclamation, out of the Gone West mare Westline, was bred by Donald Valpredo, is owned by Tijuana Racing Stables, Jacobs, Jeff and Colone, Dave and trained by Juan Silva. The $5,500 purchase at the CTBA January Sale has four wins in 25 starts, earnings of $144,956 and is coming off a July 29 claiming win.

Play Chicken is by Square Eddie, out of the Distorted Humor mare Smoove, was bred by Reddam Racing, is owned by Tijuana Racing Stables and trained by Juan Silva. He has seven wins in 31 starts, earnings of $192,094 and is coming off a third in a July 23 starter’s allowance.
