ARCADIA, Calif . (Sept. 15, 2024) — CARMA (California Retirement Management Account) is thrilled to announce the release of “What Horses Do After Racing: The Story of Good Carma,” a captivating children’s book written by renowned horse racing journalist Jay Privman and published by Red Cliff Publishing. This beautifully illustrated book is a legacy project for CARMA, dedicated to highlighting the remarkable transitions of racehorses into new and fulfilling careers beyond the track.

About the Book
“What Horses Do After Racing: The Story of Good Carma” takes young readers on a journey through the lives of four racehorses—Good Carma, Stylish Samantha, Lovely Lucinda, and Silly Billy—who, after their racing days are over, find new homes and purposes. The main character, Good Carma, is a beautiful chestnut filly with a splash of white on her face and legs, making it look like she’s wearing socks. The story showcases the horses’ dreams of their future careers.

Through engaging storytelling and illustrations, the book highlights how each horse transitions to a new career with the help of CARMA. Readers will learn about the different paths these horses take, from dressage to therapy work, and how they continue to bring joy and value to the lives of those around them.
