Kings River Knight Targets Bertrando

CYPRESS, Calif. (June 13, 2025) — Multiple stakes winner Kings River Knight is among 12 nominees to the $100,000-guaranteed Bertrando Stakes for Golden State Series-eligibles at Los Alamitos.

The one-mile race for 3-year-olds & up bred or sired in the state will be run Saturday, June 21, the second day of the Los Angeles County Fair meet at Los Alamitos. The nine-day LACF season will continue through Sunday, July 6.

Bred by Old English Rancho, owned by Integrity Thoroughbred Racing LLC, the Ellwood  Johnston Trust and Kenneth Tevelde and trained by John Sadler, the 7-year-old Acclamation gelding has won 11 of 18 and banked $710,330. He’s only been worse than second twice and is 2-for-2 at Los Alamitos. He won both the E.B. Johnston and Bertando in 2023.

Sadler, who also won the 2020 Bertrando with Galilean, also nominated recent Santa Anita maiden winner Miles Finch.

The other nominees, in alphabetical order, are Barely Funtional, who won an optional claimer during the 2024 Winter meet at Los Alamitos, Cowboy Mike, the beaten choice in this event at a year ago, Freeport Joe, Mining District, Mr. Disrespectful, Piper’s Causeway, Proof He Rides, Rodrigoknows, Royal ‘n Rando and Scary Fast Ride.

Entries for the Bertrando will be taken Wednesday, June 18.
