AUBURN, Wash. (Aug. 17, 2025) – Longshot Stay Sassy, a Washington-bred daughter of California stallion Stay Thirsty, caught defending champion Aloha Breeze in deep stretch to win Sunday’s $50,000 Emerald Distaff Stakes, presented by 1/st Bet at Emerald Downs.
Stay Sassy, out of the Harbor the Gold mare Pippa Boy Peep, has five wins in 12 starts and earnings of $91,187.
She ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.15 and won by three-quarters of a length as the longest shot on the board at 17-1 in a field of six.
Aloha Breeze, the even-money favorite, blazed through fractions of :23.10, :45.31 and 1:09.22, leading by as many as five lengths, before yielding to the winner for a rare loss.
