Los Alamitos September Meet Opens Friday

CYPRESS, Calif. (Sept. 9, 2025) — The September thoroughbred meet at Los Alamitos will begin Friday, Sept. 12.

The six-day season will continue through Sunday, Sept. 21 with racing conducted on Friday-Sunday both weeks (Sept. 12-14 and 19-21). Post time will be 1 p.m.

The meet will include a pair of stakes worth a combined $175,000.

The second day of the season – Saturday, Sept. 13 – will feature the $75,000-guaranteed E.B. Johnston Stakes for 3-year-olds & up bred or sired in California at one mile.

The more lucrative of the two stakes is the $100,000 Dark Mirage for fillies and mares – 3-year-olds & up. The one-mile race will be run Saturday, Sept. 20.

Track gates – including Burgart’s and Vessels Club – will open at 9:30 a.m. General parking is free with grandstand admission $3 ($2 for seniors).

The wagering menu includes the Pick Six – with the traditional 70%-30% split – a pair of Pick 4’s – races 2-5 and the final four races – as well as the popular Players’ Pick 5 – a 50-cent minimum wager with a reduced 14% takeout rate which is offered on the first five races.

In addition to the Dark Mirage, the Sept. 20 program will feature a live money handicapping contest with two seats available to the 2026 National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas.
