Liberation Seeks Stakes Win in Soviet Problem

CYPRESS, Calif. (Dec. 4, 2025)– No worse than third in her five-race career, Liberation will try two turns for the first time in the $100,000 Soviet Problem Stakes for Golden State Series-eligible 2-year-old fillies Sunday at Los Alamitos.
The Soviet Problem is the eighth of nine races. Post time Sunday is 12:30 p.m. Approximate post time for the main event is 4 p.m.
Owned by Hall Racing LLC, West Point Thoroughbreds. Edwin Barker and Jeffrey Levinson and trained by John Sadler, Liberation has won twice and finished third in her three defeats. The daughter of Omaha Beach and the Lonbro mare Ponytail, bred by Richard Barton Enterprises, was most recently third behind stablemate Mohaven in the Golden State Juvenile Fillies Oct. 31 at Del Mar.
Liberation, who will be making her Los Alamitos debut, has banked $117,000.
Cecilia Street will return to dirt after graduating at the Soviet Problem distance on turf Nov. 14 for breeder Carliwood Farms, which co-owns with Integrity Thoroughbreds, Mathilde Powell and trainer Leonard Powell.
A Stanford filly out of the Unusual Heat mare Walk in the Park, Cecilia Street is 1-for-4 with a bankroll of $45,300. She finished fifth in her first two starts on the main track.
Idle since finishing 10 lengths behind Liberation when fifth in her first start against winners Oct. 3, Tiger Lady will stretch out for Edward J. Brown, Alan Klein and Philip Lebherz and trainer Andy Mathis.
A daughter of Smiling Tiger and the Unusual Heat mare Fiery Lane, Tiger Lady defeated $20,000 state-bred maidens in her Aug. 15 bow. Bred by PT Syndicate #1, Tiger Lady has earned $19,220 in two outings.
A homebred by J. Paul Reddam’s Reddam Racing LLC, Eighties returns to dirt after an easy gate-to-wire win at eight furlongs on the Santa Anita turf Oct. 18.
Trained by Antonio Garcia, the I’lll Have Another filly out of the Rock Hard Ten mare Octogarian is 1-for-4 with earnings of $46,600.
Trainer Sean McCarthy, who won the 2024 Soviet Problem with 16-1 outsider Hey Jessie, will be represented by four-start maiden Danzing Daisy.
Owned by breeder Rex Racing LLC, the Danzing Candy filly out of the Time to Get Even mare Notte Stellata has been second three times, most recently when chasing Donttellmewhattodo Nov. 9.
Danzing Daisy, who has banked $40,300, will be racing beyond six furlongs for the first time. If she is successful Sunday, McCarthy will become the first trainer to go back-to-back in the Soviet Problem since daytime thoroughbred racing began at Los Alamitos in 2014.
Completing the field is second-time starter Cammy’s Girl, bred by Miguel and Cristina Jimenez.
Owned by Williamson Racing LLC and trained by Dan Blacker, the daughter of Texas Ryano was third after a slow beginning going 5 ½ furlongs Nov. 16. The chestnut, who is out of the Tribal Rule mare Family Girl earned $3,960 for the effort.
