CYPRESS, Calif. (Dec. 14, 2025) –Owner-breeder J. Paul Reddam’s Reddam Racing LLC picked up a fourth win in the King Glorious Stakes on the final day of the Winter Thoroughbred Meet when 7-2 second choice Smoovin’ Saturday rallied to capture the $101,500 event for Golden State Series -eligible 2-year-olds at Los Alamitos.
A son of I’ll Have Another and the Square Eddie mare Smoove It, Smoovin’ Saturday took advantage of a quick pace set by longshot Tommy Norris to win for the second time in as many starts. He graduated at first asking going one mile Nov. 16 Del Mar.
The $60,000 payday increased Smoovin’ Saturday’s earnings to $96,000. He completed the eight furlongs in 1:37.31 while defeating runner-up John Metcalfe – who was also second to him four weeks prior – by 1 ¼ lengths. Ridden by Tiago Pereira, the chestnut paid $9.20, $6 and $3.40.
Jonathan Thomas saddled the winner Sunday in place of the suspended Michael McCarthy.
Reddam’s four other King Glorious victories came with Found Money (2015), Ann Arbor Eddie (2016) and Play Chicken (2020).
“He broke very well today,’’’ said Pereira. “He relaxed and he picked up the bit when I asked him.
“I said to myself at the three-eighths pole we’re going to win. I rode him last time and I knew the way he finished that day the long stretch here would help him.
“I moved outside for the stretch and when I pushed him he responded. He got a little scared of the gate (positioned to his outside), but it was a nice win and I’m thankful to the owners and trainers for the opportunity.’’
A 12-1 shot, John Metcalfe, who took over the lead with about 2 ½ furlongs to run, returned $10.80 and $4.20 while finishing 1 ¾ lengths in front of 11-10 favorite Can’t Help Myself. The show price on Can’t Help Myself was $2.20.
The order of finish was completed by Pavlovian, another Reddam homebred, Fionello, Flashy Fritz, Mo Holland Drive and Tommy Norris.
