(June 6, 2014) — Cal Expo will be hosting the party of the week on Saturday, June 7, when California Chrome runs in the Belmont Stakes and attempts to become the first horse from California to win the Triple Crown. California Chrome will attempt to make history by becoming the first horse since 1978 (Affirmed) to win the Triple Crown. A California horse has never won the Triple Crown guaranteeing excitement for Saturday’s race.
California Chrome was foaled on February 18, 2011 in Coalinga, California at Harris Farms. He has been noted for a few idiosyncrasies including his fondness for one specific brand of horse treats.
The Belmont Stakes is 1.5 miles or 12 furlongs and is run every June. It is the final leg of the U.S. Triple Crown. The last time a horse from California won the Belmont Stakes was in 1903 by Africander who was from Rancho del Paso, a horse farm near Sacramento.
