ARCADIA, Calif. (Apr. 9, 2014) – California Cup Sprint champ Big Macher is joined by fellow California-breds Cyclometer and Crimson Giant in Saturday’s $200,000 Grade II Potrero Grande Stakes at Santa Anita.
Big Macher is by Beau Genius, out of the Kris S. mare Insight, was bred by Ballena Vista Farm, is owned by Tom Mansor and Tachycardia Stables and is trained by Richard Baltas. He has three wins in nine starts, earnings of $196,428 and is coming off a second in the Mar. 8 San Carlos Stakes.
“The horse has a good style; he can stalk or can be on the lead, too. It doesn’t matter,” said Baltas. “I like where we drew (post position seven of eight). There is one speed horse outside us (Cyclometer), but we should come out of there and Tyler (Baze) will have a good look at the field, but if they give us the lead, we’ll take it.”
Cyclometer is by Cyclotron, out of the Eastern Echo mare Moana Loa, was bred by owners Bruce Headley and Irwin and Andrew Molasky and is trained by Headley. He has five wins in 19 starts, earnings of $333,004 and is coming off a ninth in the Mar. 8 San Carlos Stakes.
Crimson Giant is by Formal Gold, out of the Exclusive Era mare Mia Lena, was bred by owner Bryan Carney and is trained by Charles Stutts. He has one win in 50 starts, earnings of $115,804 and is coming off a third in a Mar. 27 optional claimer.
