The Blood-Horse expanded its international reach Jan. 9 with the launch of a digital-only Spanish language edition called Blood-Horse en Español. The first translated edition is the Jan. 3, 2015, issue of the weekly magazine.
Handling the distribution and translation of the Thoroughbred racing industry’s leading magazine is XY Jett, a subsidiary of G S Inversiones Hipicas, which is owned by Ivan Rodriguez Gelfenstein.
“Blood-Horse en Español is something that it has been in my mind for a long time,” said Gelfenstein, an international businessman who divides his time between his native Venezuela and South Florida. “It has been an inquietude as a Latino and a horse racing lover to not have in our language the kind of information that The Blood-Horse offers. From today, millions of fans in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain will be able to have access to the most complete magazine in a digital format. In there they will be able to find information about breeding, sales, events, statistics, and many other activities that involve Latinos who own racing operations in United States.”
Passionate about Thoroughbreds from an early age, Gelfenstein was introduced to the equine industry as a youngster when his parents bred horses in Chile. He owned his first horse at age 24 and has participated in the equine industry for 31 years. Gelfenstein also owns a 70-acre farm and training center near Ocala, Fla.
“We are excited about the opportunities created by Blood-Horse en Español,” said The Blood-Horse editor-in-chief Eric Mitchell. “We have seen significant investments over the past couple of years in Central Kentucky by leading South American breeders Borges Torrealba and Don Alberto. The ties between the Thoroughbred communities in Latin America and the U.S. will only grow stronger.”
