DEL MAR, Calif. (Aug. 16, 2015) – Chati’s On Top rallied four-wide through the stretch to win Sunday’s $150,750 Solana Beach Handicap for Golden State Series eligible fillies and mares at Del Mar.
Chati’s On Top is by Old Topper, out of the Globalize mare Chati Valley, was bred by Bill Delia, H.C. Martin and Ray Pagano, is owned by Little Red Feather Racing and Marsha Naify and is trained by Mike Puype.
“I can’t say the fractions were overly fast and that’s why she won,” said Puype. “She came to run today. She had to run wide and speed has been pretty prevalent on the turf course lately. But when she picked up her run you could tell she meant business. She was the best today. We were entered in the Osunitas (July 18) and when it rained and it came off the turf it was a tough decision whether to scratch or not. But I figured it was best. This was our goal for the summer and she was fresh and ready to run.”
Chati’s On Top has four wins in 15 starts, earnings of $294,728 and was coming off a second in the May 23 Fran’s Valentine.
Chati’s On top ran the mile on turf in 1:34.49 and won by 1 ½ lengths at odds of 5-1. Chaulk O Lattey was second and Mangita was third in the field of nine.
