SACRAMENTO, Calif. (July 20, 2020) — The California Horse Racing Board conducted a meeting by teleconference on Monday, July 20. The public participated by dialing into the teleconference and/or listening through the audio webcast link on the CHRB website. Dr. Gregory Ferraro chaired the meeting, joined by Vice Chair Oscar Gonzales and Commissioners Dennis Alfieri, Damascus Castellanos, Wendy Mitchell, and Alex Solis.
The only agenda item was discussion and action by the Board regarding the Board’s action on July 10, 2020, to place on probation the license to conduct a horse race meet for the Los Alamitos Quarter Horse Racing Association (LQHRA) at Los Alamitos Race Course, running December 27, 2019, through December 22, 2020, pending a plan of action from the licensee to reduce fatalities, pursuant to CHRB Rule 1435
After LQHRA presented a plan that includes additional safety personnel and greater scrutiny of horses in training and entered to race, the Board accepted the plan and took no action against the racetrack’s license, while indicating intent to monitor the plan for effectiveness and compliance.
The audio of this entire Board meeting is available on the CHRB Website (www.chrb.ca.gov) under the Webcast link.
