DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (Dec. 8, 2015) — — Horse of the Year California Chrome is among the 181 horses accepted for the 2016 Dubai World Cup Carnival at Meydan Racecourse in the United Arab Emirates.
Including California Chrome, the 2014 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands and Preakness Stakes (both grade I) winner, there are 22 grade or group I winners among the horses, as well as 17 grade or group II winners, and 22 for which a grade or group III win was their top performance.
The accepted horses come from 16 countries and this year count among their number the first Dubai World Cup Carnival representatives from South Korea in Cheongu and Success Story, trained by Inseok Seo.
The Dubai World Cup Carnival gets underway Thurs., Jan. 7, 2016, and features 10 days of racing leading up to the Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) on Sat., March 26.
“The quality of the horses that have been nominated for the Carnival speaks for itself and we look forward to a hugely exciting and entertaining three months ahead as these great athletes compete for some of the highest prizes in the industry in the run-up to the 2016 Dubai World Cup,” said Meydan Group vice chairman and chairman of the Meydan Racing Committee, Malih Al Basti.
Fascinating Rock, the Dermot Weld-trained British Champion Stakes (Eng-I) winner is among the accepted horses, and from trainer Chris Waller’s Australian base comes 2015 group I winners Delectation andGood Project. Multiple group I-winning sprinter Sole Power has also been accepted as has Toormore from the yard of Richard Hannon.
